Defendant - Trainmerit, a firm of estate agents in Bexhill. Charged with failure to review and implement the findings of fire risk assessments, failure to properly manage fire safety fire safety arrangements, failure to provide suitable protection to escape routes, lack of separation of fire escape routes, and failure to provide suitable emergency lighting. Fined £28,000 plus £10,931.98 in costs.

Defendant - Nicholas Eccleston, owner of Latchmoor Cottage on the Rhinefield Estate. Charged with failure to provide a suitable and sufficient fire risk assessment, failure to provide an appropriate means for giving the alarm in case of fire, failure to protect the escape routes from the first floor of the premises and failure to ensure that a fire exit door could be easily and immediately opened in an emergency. Fined £10,000 plus £3,660 in costs and a £120 victim surcharge.

Defendant - Peter Metcalf, Owner of the New Kimberly Hotel, Blackpool. Charged with 15 breaches of the Fire Safety Order, including failure to maintain suitable escape routes, failure to provide an adequate fire alarm and detection system, and failure to provide a suitable emergency lighting system. 18-month jail sentence; Ordered to pay £5,243 in costs.

Defendant - Hekmat Kaveh, owner of The Abbey College private . Charged with failure to maintain a working fire alarm and detection system, and failure to provide adequate fire protection to escape routes from the student dormitories. Fined £24,000 plus £23,450 in costs.

Defendant - Richard Dickinson, Runcorn based landlord. Charged with three breaches of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) 2005, which led to a serious fire leaving six elderly residents trapped on the first floor in need of rescue. 12-month suspended sentence. 200 hours of unpaid work. Ordered to pay £68,362 court costs.

Defendant - Michael Hanlon and James Much, owners of St Michael's Mount Nursing Home. Charged with 7 fire safety failures, including failure to provide an adequate fire risk assessment, failing to maintain an effective fire alarm system, failing to keep emergency exits clear, failing to have a suitable fire evacuation procedure, having defective fire doors and failing to provide staff with appropriate information. Fined a total of £44,000 between them, plus £4000 in costs.

Defendant - Graham Sawings, Blackpool based landlord. Charged with multiple fire safety failures, including failure maintain the fire detection and warning system, failure to provide a suitable fire evacuation plan, failure to provide fire-fighting equipment and failure to maintain fire resisting doors. Fined £36,000 plus £7000 in costs.

Defendant - Gurpartap Singh Bhullar, Company Director of Bellforce Developments, owners of a Slough based House of Multiple Occupation. Charged with multiple fire safety failures, including failure to conduct a suitable and sufficient fire risk assessment, failure to take general life precautions for persons sleeping on the premises, failure to provide adequate means of detection and giving warning in the event of a fire. Bhullar received a fine of £6,750, and Bellforce Developments received a fine of £13,500. Additionally, they were ordered to pay court costs of £21,732.62 to the fire authority.

Defendant - Askar Miah, Southampton based landlord. Pleaded guilty to multiple fire safety failures, including failure to provide means of detection and giving warning in the event of a fire, failure to keep escape routes clear of obstructions and poor structural fire separation. Fined £36,000, and ordered to pay costs of £3,816.
